No. 19 Wayne takes down No. 1 Findlay Prep

For the longest time, Nevada’s Findlay Prep looked unbeatable as they ran through teams, scoring over triple digits in six over its first 17 games.  Then, the nation’s top ranked team faced Wayne High School, ranked 19th in the DigitalSports National Basketball Rankings.

The game went back and forth.  Findlay took an early advantage, leading 35-32 by the half.  Then Wayne started the third quarter off with eight straight points and led by five going into the forth.

Findlay worked its way back into the game, catching the Warriors.  Allonzo Trier, Findlay’s all star shooting guard, even had the opportunity to win it with a buzzer beater layup, but the shot would not fall and the game stayed tied at 65.

In the overtime, Wayne dominated.  After dropping the first two baskets, Findlay converted a three-point play bringing the scoring to 69-68 with just over two minutes remaining.  Those were the last points the nation’s top team scored.  The Warriors did not left off the gas, adding another seven points in the overtime to win the game 76-68.

Trey Landers led Wayne with a game-high 20 points and nine rebounds.  Rodrick Caldwell was right behind the junior shooting guard with 18 points.

Wayne is now 10-2 with this win over the nation’s top team.  The Warriors face Centerville next on January 23.
